Indian athlete Avinash Sable has committed to giving his utmost effort in the men's 3000m steeplechase final at the Paris Olympics.
Sable qualified for the finals by clocking 8:15.43 in the second heat, securing the fifth spot. Initially leading for the first two and a half minutes, Sable slipped behind as Kenya's Abraham Kibiwot and Ethiopia's Samuel Firewu took charge.
Japan's Ryuji Miura overtook Sable midway, pushing him to fourth place. However, Sable managed to reclaim the second spot briefly before finishing fifth, ensuring his place in the final. Reflecting on his performance, Sable emphasized his primary goal of making it to the finals and expressed his determination to excel in the upcoming race.
"The race was good. The first aim was to go to the final. The next aim is to do well in it," Sable told ANI. The national record holder and Asian Games champion vowed to give his best in the medal match, attributed to rigorous training since October. Sable, who failed to qualify for the finals in Tokyo, aims to redeem himself in Paris.
Morocco's Mohamed Tindouft (8:10.62), Ethiopia's Samuel Firewu (8:11.61), Kenya's Abraham Kibiwot (8:12.02), and Japan's Ryuji Miura (8:12.41) topped Heat 2. Sable is set to compete in the final on Tuesday at Stade de France.
