In a stunning upset, ace Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat defeated reigning gold-medallist and four-time world champion Yui Susaki of Japan to advance to the quarter-finals of the 50kg category event at the Olympic Games.

Susaki's first-ever international career loss underscores the magnitude of Vinesh's achievement. The Indian wrestler will next face former European champion and 2018 world championship bronze-medallist Oksana Livach of Ukraine.

Trailing 0-2 after conceding penalty points for passivity, Vinesh made a dramatic comeback in the last five seconds, securing three points to clinch a 3-2 victory. Over the past year, she has also been active in protests against former Wrestling Federation of India head Brij Bhushan Singh Sharan.
