PARIS, Aug 6 (Reuters) - The United States has surged to the top of the Olympic medal table, aiming to solidify its lead through upcoming athletics and equestrian events set for Tuesday.
Sweden's Mondo Duplantis electrified crowds at Stade de France by breaking his own world record in the pole vault, retaining his gold medal in the process. Meanwhile, in Tahiti, local talent Kauli Vaast clinched gold as the competition concluded on the island far from Paris.
In surfing, Tahitian Kauli Vaast achieved victory for France in the men's final, while Caroline Marks of the United States triumphed in the women's event. Taiwan's Sports Administration has lodged a protest against the International Boxing Association's gender eligibility ruling, which disqualified boxer Lin Yu-ting. Algeria's Imane Khelif is set to fight in the women's 66kg boxing semi-final despite the ongoing dispute.
