India Faces Setbacks in Paris 2024 Olympics Amid Resilient Efforts

On a challenging Wednesday at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Indian athletes faced numerous obstacles in both the men's high jump and women's table tennis events. In the men's high jump qualifications, 29-year-old Sarvesh Anil Kushare managed to clear 2.15m on his initial attempt but faltered at 2.20m in three subsequent tries.

With the qualification mark set at 2.29m, Kushare's performance placed him second to last in Group B, ending his high jump campaign. Simultaneously, in the women's table tennis team quarterfinal, India's team, including Sreeja Akula, Archana Kamath, and Manika Batra, encountered stiff competition from Germany, ranked fifth.

Akula and Kamath lost their opening matches, putting Germany ahead 2-0. Kamath's victory over Shan Xiaona in the third match brought India to 2-1, but Annett Kaufmann's second win secured Germany's 3-1 triumph, advancing them to the semifinals.

The stringent standards and fierce competition at the Olympics were further exemplified earlier in the day by javelin thrower Annu Rani. Her best attempt of 55.81m fell short of the 62.00m qualifying mark, placing her 15th in Group A, thereby eliminating her from the finals.
