The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has enlisted Tim Nielsen, a former first-class player from Australia, as its new red-ball high-performance coach. The decision marks a significant step in rebuilding the Pakistani cricket team, currently undergoing a turbulent period.
This appointment follows the recent hiring of former Australian pace bowler Jason Gillespie as the red-ball head coach. Both Nielsen and Gillespie have a history of collaboration at the South Australian cricket academy.
According to a PCB source, Nielsen was recommended by Gillespie. The move aims to strengthen the team's preparations for the forthcoming Test series against Bangladesh, with Nielsen already joining Gillespie's support staff. The training camp is set to begin on August 11, with the first Test match in Rawalpindi from August 21 to 25, and the second in Karachi from August 30 to September 3. Azhar Mahmood will continue as the assistant coach, alongside white-ball coach Gary Kirsten.
