Star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is standing in solidarity with wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who is currently awaiting a verdict on her appeal against disqualification from the Games due to a weight issue.
Phogat was found 100gm overweight before her 50kg category final and has contested the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. A ruling is expected by 9:30 PM IST. Chopra, who recently earned a silver medal in addition to his Tokyo gold, emphasized the importance of recognizing Phogat's past contributions, regardless of the appeal outcome.
'People shouldn't forget her,' Chopra stated. He further stressed that the presence of the medal around Phogat's neck would prevent her achievements from fading from public memory. Chopra, the first Indian track-and-field athlete to win two Olympic medals, expressed his hopes that the nation's focus on her would remain strong.
