Paris Set for High-Security Olympic Closing Ceremony

With the 2024 Summer Games drawing to a close, Paris is gearing up for the final ceremony amid heightened security. As the 2024 Summer Games come to a close this Sunday, Paris's security services are now focused on the closing ceremony set to be held at the Stade de France. The event will mark the official end of the Olympics, with more than 30,000 police officers deployed across the city and beyond.

Earlier in the day, the area around the Eiffel Tower was evacuated as a shirtless man attempted to climb the iconic landmark. He was quickly detained by police. The closing ceremony, expected to last just over two hours, will begin at 9 p.m. in the northern suburb of Saint-Denis.

France's Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin has assured the public of heightened security, with no specific terrorist threats targeting the event. The ceremony will involve 3,000 police troops, in addition to 20,000 security personnel already mobilized. This comes after a chaotic start to the Games caused by sabotaged rail lines.
