Top Seeds Nuno Borges and Magdalena Frech Advance in Cincinnati Open

Nuno Borges and Magdalena Frech, the top seeds in the Cincinnati Open, advanced with wins in the qualifying round. Borges defeated Aleksandar Vukic, while Frech beat Jéssica Bouzas Maneiro. For the women, 12th-seeded Taylor Townsend of Smyrna ousted No. 4 Katie Volynets of Walnut Creek 6-0, 6-3, and Robin Montgomery and Ashlyn Krueger also secured victories over higher-seeded opponents.

Additionally, the men's draw saw Italy's Flavio Cobolli triumph over 10th-seeded Tommy Paul of Boca Raton 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. Japan's No. 3 Yoshihito Nishioka and France's No. 11 Corentin Moutet advanced as well. On the women's side, No. 15 Harriet Dart of Great Britain defeated No. 5 Elina Avanesyan of Armenia 6-4, 6-1, while Australia's No. 3 Lulu Sun, No. 10 Varvara Gracheva, and China's No. 13 Y.F. Wang also moved forward.

The tournament's main draws will resume tomorrow with numerous American players competing at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. Notable matches include No. 12 seed Ben Shelton from Atlanta facing Reilly Opelka of St. Joseph in the afternoon, and No. 11 Taylor Fritz from Rancho Palos Verdes playing against San Diego's Brandon Nakashima in the evening.
