Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat received a warm welcome at Delhi Airport on Tuesday after his recent bronze medal win at the Paris Olympics. Making his debut, Sehrawat clinched the medal with a decisive 13-5 victory over Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz, marking India's first wrestling medal at the 2024 Games.
The Terminal 3 of Delhi Airport was bustling with a huge crowd gathered to honor the 21-year-old athlete. The Indian Hockey Team also arrived in Delhi earlier that day, following their own bronze medal triumph at the Games.
India finished 71st in the Paris Olympics medals tally, while the United States topped the list with 126 medals. After the event, Aman expressed his mixed emotions to ANI, noting his initial aspiration for gold but contentment with the bronze. 'I am very happy and I still can't believe that I have won a medal for the country at the Olympics,' he said, revealing his plans to prepare for the 2026 Asian Games and the 2028 Olympics.
'It was a speechless moment when I stood on the podium,' Sehrawat added. During the match, Cruz initially led with a single-leg hold but Aman quickly turned the tables by targeting Cruz's shoulders. Aman then regained control after Cruz's two-point move, ultimately winning the bout with technical superiority as Cruz made a last-ditch effort and conceded another point.
