India's cricket captain Rohit Sharma advanced one position to second place in the latest ICC ODI rankings for batters on Wednesday, thanks to his stellar display in the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Despite India's 0-2 series loss, Sharma managed to score 157 runs, boasting an average of 52.33, with two half-centuries in the series. The opening match ended in a tie.

Shubman Gill fell one spot to third, while Virat Kohli held steady at No.4 in the rankings. Pakistan's Babar Azam currently tops the rankings with 824 rating points, followed by Sharma with 765 points.

Among other notable rankings, Shreyas Iyer sits 16th, with KL Rahul in 21st after a one-position drop. Kuldeep Yadav remains the premier Indian bowler at fourth, trailing South Africa's Keshav Maharaj, and Australia's Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa.

Pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are at eighth and ninth positions respectively, while Mohammed Shami, rehabilitating after ankle surgery, stands at 12th. Washington Sundar's 10-place jump to 87th spot follows his leading wicket-taking performance in the Sri Lanka series.

Ravindra Jadeja retains his 16th spot among all-rounders, while Hardik Pandya drops to 26th. India leads the ODI team rankings with 118 points, ahead of Australia (116) and South Africa (112).
