New Zealand's Devon Conway Opts for Flexibility Over Central Contract
Devon Conway, New Zealand's cricket opener, has chosen a casual contract for the 2024-2025 season, allowing him to play in South Africa's SA20 league. This decision follows a similar move by former captain Kane Williamson, emphasizing the need for flexibility amid lucrative offers from global Twenty20 leagues.
Devon Conway, New Zealand's opener, has decided to forgo a central contract for the upcoming 2024-2025 season, opting instead for a casual arrangement. This decision allows the Johannesburg-born lefthander the freedom to participate in South Africa's SA20 league next January.
Conway, who has an impressive record with 20 tests, 32 ODIs, and 50 Twenty20 internationals for New Zealand since 2020, will remain available for all nine Black Caps tests and the Champions Trophy next year. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced the move, underscoring its significance.
Expressing his thoughts, the 33-year-old Conway remarked, 'The decision to move away from a central playing contract isn't one I've taken lightly, but I believe it is the best for me and my family at this present time. Playing for the Black Caps is still the pinnacle for me, and I'm hugely passionate about representing New Zealand and winning games of international cricket.'
