Sumit Antil: The Quest for 80 Meters and Beyond

Tokyo Paralympics gold medalist Sumit Antil aims to break his own javelin throw world record at the Paris Paralympics. As flag bearer for India, Sumit, who achieved multiple records and medals, is set to showcase his best efforts. He’s focused on surpassing 75 meters, targeting an 80-meter throw.

Tokyo Paralympics gold medalist Sumit Antil is gearing up to break his own world record in javelin throw at the Paris Paralympics, where he will defend his title in the Men's F64 category.

Sumit, along with Bhagyashree Jadhav, will be India's flag bearers at the event scheduled for August 28 to September 8, 2024. Sumit set a world record with a throw of 68.55 meters in Tokyo, later surpassing it at the 2023 Para World Championships and the Hangzhou Para Asian Games.

Targeting an 80-meter throw in the long term, Sumit, who lost one of his legs in an accident in 2015, aims to hit 75 meters in Paris. He emphasized his consistent practice and strength building without altering his technique, ready to perform without pressure. Sumit expressed pride in leading a strong Indian contingent of 84 athletes across 12 disciplines, marking a monumental phase in his career.
