Brighton & Hove Albion Acquires Georginio Rutter in Record-Breaking Deal
Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the signature of forward Georginio Rutter from Leeds United for a reported club-record fee of £40 million. The 22-year-old Frenchman, previously with Hoffenheim and Leeds, will join Brighton on a five-year contract, aimed at enhancing their attacking options for the new season.
Brighton & Hove Albion have officially signed forward Georginio Rutter from Championship club Leeds United on a five-year deal, the clubs announced Monday. Financial terms were not disclosed, but English media suggest a record transfer fee of £40 million ($51 million) was paid for the 22-year-old French striker.
Rutter joined Leeds from Hoffenheim in 2023 in a deal worth up to £36 million ($46 million). During his 18-month tenure at Leeds, he made 66 appearances and netted eight goals. Brighton’s manager, Fabian Hurzeler, expressed confidence in Rutter's ability to energize fans.
"Georginio has the skill to get fans on their feet and has already shown his capabilities in English football with Leeds last season," Hurzeler said. Leeds, unable to retain Rutter, respected his choice to leave. Brighton will next face Manchester United on Saturday, following their 3-0 victory over Everton in the season opener.
