Adelaide Strikers have finally secured the services of Indian star Smriti Mandhana for the Women's Big Bash League after years of pursuit.
The talented Indian opener has previously represented WBBL teams such as Brisbane Heat, Sydney Thunder, and Hobart Hurricanes. Mandhana was signed by the reigning champions Strikers ahead of the draft under the league's new overseas player pre-season signing provision on Sunday.
However, scheduling conflicts may prevent Mandhana from participating in the league's initial matches as India prepares to host New Zealand for a three-match ODI series in late October. The WBBL season kicks off on October 27, followed by India's ODI series against Australia immediately after the WBBL final on December 1. "Excited is an understatement," Strikers captain Tahlia McGrath told cricket.com.au.
Club icon Megan Schutt echoed McGrath's sentiments on Mandhana's addition, emphasizing the club's continuous efforts to secure her since their stint at 'The Hundred.' Schutt highlighted Mandhana's impressive skill set, her adaptability to Australian conditions, and her influential leadership qualities as critical assets for the Strikers this season.
