Brighton & Hove Albion's Matt O'Riley to Undergo Ankle Surgery After Debut Injury
Matt O'Riley, Brighton & Hove Albion's new midfielder from Denmark, requires surgery following an ankle injury sustained during his debut against Crawley Town in the League Cup. Head coach Fabian Hurzeler announced the surgery, while Crawley manager Scott Lindsey apologized for the tackle causing the injury.
Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Matt O'Riley will undergo ankle surgery following an injury sustained nine minutes into his club debut, head coach Fabian Hurzeler confirmed.
Denmark's O'Riley, recently transferred from Celtic in a £25 million deal, suffered the injury after a heavy tackle by Jay Williams during Brighton's 4-0 League Cup victory over Crawley Town.
Hurzeler couldn't specify the recovery period for O'Riley as of Thursday. Crawley's manager Scott Lindsey expressed regret for the aggressive tackle, extending his apologies. Brighton, having triumphed over Everton and Manchester United, now stand level on points with Arsenal, whom they will face on Saturday.
