Chennai Gears Up for First-Ever Formula 4 Night Race
The Chennai Street Circuit for the upcoming Formula 4 Street Car Race received a G3 circuit licence from the FIA, hours after the Madras High Court allowed time for the approval. The licence is crucial but does not ensure absolute safety, as responsibilities lie with circuit owners and organizers.
The Chennai Street Circuit has been greenlit for the upcoming Formula 4 Street Car Race after receiving a G3 circuit licence from the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) on Saturday.
The FIA's approval came hours after the Madras High Court granted the event organizers time to secure the necessary endorsement. According to FIA's statement, the licence is essential for submitting an application to organize a race but doesn't guarantee registration within the FIA championship framework.
The court's decision followed a plea from Racing Promotion Private Ltd, which has invested around Rs 200 crore in the event. The race, featuring eight city-based franchise teams, will be India's first-ever Formula 4 night race, held on a 3.5 km circuit.
