In the lead-up to Major Dhyan Chand's birth anniversary and as part of National Sports Day 2024 celebrations, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting successfully organized its inaugural "Khel Utsav 2024." The sporting event, held from August 27 to August 30, 2024, took place at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.

The maiden edition of Khel Utsav featured tournaments in four popular sports: Cricket, Hockey, Badminton, and Table Tennis. The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 200 officials and staff of the Ministry, who demonstrated great zeal in making the event a success. The Ministry plans to expand the range of sports in future editions of Khel Utsav, encouraging wider participation and fostering a culture of fitness and teamwork.

A trophy distribution ceremony, recognizing the winners and participants, was held on September 4, 2024, at the PIB Conference Hall, Shastri Bhawan. The ceremony was graced by the Secretary of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Sh. Sanjay Jaju, along with other senior officials, who commended the participants for their spirit and dedication.

The event is seen as a fitting tribute to Major Dhyan Chand, one of India's greatest sporting legends, and a celebration of the country's commitment to sports and physical well-being.
