Chennaiyin FC continue to prove their mettle in the Indian Super League (ISL), having reached the ISL Cup finals three times and qualified for the knockout stages in five seasons. According to an ISL media release, they topped the table in the inaugural edition.

Despite missing the playoffs from 2020-21 to 2022-23, they made the knockout stages last season by finishing sixth. Though they exited in the first round, the team is showing promise under Owen Coyle, who previously led them to a final in 2019-20. Their pre-season performance was lackluster, failing to progress in the Bandodkar Trophy and sending a reserve team to the Durand Cup, but Coyle remains optimistic.

With significant changes, including 15 departures and 12 new signings, Coyle is shaping the squad to his vision. Notable departures include Rafael Crivellaro and Jordan Murray, while additions like Daniel Chima Chukwu and Wilmar Jordan Gil aim to strengthen the team. Retaining key players like Samik Mitra and Ryan Edwards provides continuity.

The new season starts with three away games in their first four matches, beginning with a challenging trip to Odisha FC. Their first home game against newly-promoted Mohammedan SC and a year-end clash with Bengaluru FC promise exciting encounters ahead.
