Fatima Ezzahra El Idrissi Smashes World Record at Paralympics
Morocco's Fatima Ezzahra El Idrissi broke the world record in the women's marathon for runners with visual impairments at the Paralympic Games, finishing in 2 hours, 48 minutes and 36 seconds. Tunisia's Wajdi Boukhili won the men's T12 marathon. Swiss racers Marcel Hug and Catherine Debrunner triumphed in the wheelchair categories.

Morocco's Fatima Ezzahra El Idrissi set a new world record in the women's marathon for visually impaired runners on the final day of the Paralympic Games.
El Idrissi crossed the finish line in 2 hours, 48 minutes, and 36 seconds, shattering the previous record set by Japan's Misato Michishita in December 2020 by nearly 6 minutes.
"I wasn't running for a time, only for a medal," the 29-year-old Moroccan said. "I wasn't aiming to get the world record, just to get the gold, and now I have both."
Tunisia's Wajdi Boukhili claimed victory in the men's T12 marathon with a time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 5 seconds, followed by Spain's Alberto Suarez Laso and Morocco's El Amin Chentouf.
In the wheelchair categories, Switzerland's Catherine Debrunner and Marcel Hug took the gold in the women's and men's races, respectively.
