Austria head coach Ralf Rangnick has reiterated his previous criticism of Manchester United, emphasizing that the club still needs an 'open heart operation' to solve its persistent problems. Rangnick, who managed United during the 2021-22 season on an interim basis after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was dismissed, had made similar comments during his tenure.
During the 2021-22 season, Rangnick faced a significant challenge as Manchester United suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Liverpool. At that time, Rangnick had remarked, 'The good thing, one of the few, is it's crystal clear. You don't even need glasses to see the problems. Now it's only about how you can solve them. Not minor cosmetic things. This is an open-heart operation. If everyone realizes this has to happen and works together, it doesn't need to take years.'
Erik Ten Hag, who succeeded Rangnick, has also struggled to bring consistency to United's performance. The team has faced a rough start to the current season, with two losses in their first three Premier League matches. Rangnick's critique remains relevant, as Ten Hag recently acknowledged that Rangnick's assessment was correct. Manchester United is now preparing to face Southampton, hoping to bounce back from their recent defeats.
