Grizzlies acquire Justin Holiday from Bulls in exchange for Brooks

MarShon Brooks, whose name accidentally came up in an aborted trade last month, was dealt by the Memphis Grizzlies to the Chicago Bulls in a multiplayer transaction Thursday, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and the Chicago Tribune. The Bulls sent small forward Justin Holiday to the Grizzlies in exchange for Brooks and fellow guard Wayne Selden plus 2019 and 2020 second-round draft picks, per the reports.

In mid-December, the Grizzlies thought they had a three-team deal in place that would have sent Brooks to the Suns. However, Phoenix believed it was acquiring Dillon Brooks from Memphis rather than MarShon Brooks, so the trade that also involved the Washington Wizards was reworked and ultimately was completed without either Brooks being included. MarShon Brooks, who turns 30 on Jan. 26, is averaging 6.6 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists through 29 games this season.

He is headed to his sixth franchise in five NBA seasons. Selden, 24, has averages of 5.4 points, 1.1 assists and 1.4 rebounds in 32 games. Holiday, 29, is the brother of New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday and Indiana Pacers guard Aaron Holiday. He is producing 11.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 38 games. The latter two figures are career highs for the seventh-year veteran, while the points average trails only his 12.2 from last season, his first with the Bulls.

The Chicago Tribune reported in the wake of the deal that the Bulls still have small forward Jabari Parker and center Robin Lopez on the trade market. Parker has fallen out of the playing rotation despite signing a two-year, $40 million deal with the club in July. Wojnarowski reports guard Cameron Payne is the player likely to be waived to make room on Chicago's roster. Payne, 24, was drafted 14th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2015 and was traded to the Bulls last February. He is averaging 5.7 points and 2.7 assists in 31 games (12 starts) this season after spending much of last year with Chicago's G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls.
