The GMR Group, co-owners of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals, has completed an agreement to acquire a 53 percent stake in Hampshire County Cricket Club. This landmark deal makes Hampshire the first English county team with overseas ownership, setting a precedent in the cricket world.
"With this acquisition, along with our investments in the US, Dubai, and India, GMR is focused on engaging and connecting with the global youth. Under the new ownership structure, Hampshire's existing leadership team, including Group Chairman Rod Bransgrove and CEO David Mann, will remain in place. This acquisition is seen as a significant strategic partnership aimed at the globalization of cricket, with significant investments planned for facilities and talent development at Utilita Bowl.
