Renowned Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has offered a heartfelt apology for his silence during the recent protests in the country. He has also urged fans to attend his final test match against South Africa in Dhaka on October 21.

The 37-year-old, who served as a member of parliament for the Awami League under Sheikh Hasina's leadership, has found himself in a delicate position as political shifts occur in Bangladesh. Hasina's 15-year tenure ended in August amid deadly protests, leading to her fleeing to India.

Shakib, often hailed as Bangladesh's greatest cricketer, has not been in the country since July. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has assured his safety upon return. His impressive career, comprising 14,730 runs and 712 wickets across formats, is set to conclude with this farewell match.
