The Seattle Mariners have signed free-agent right-handed pitcher Cory Gearrin and free agent infielder Tim Beckham to one-year contracts, the club announced Thursday. The Beckham deal is worth $1.75 million with another $250,000 worth of incentives, according to a USA Today report. No terms have been made available yet on Gearrin's deal. Beckham, 28, has played all over the infield but has logged the most games at shortstop during his career.

The former No. 1 overall pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008 hit .230 in 96 games with the Baltimore Orioles last season. He slugged 12 home runs and drove in 35 runs. Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto had said the team was looking for a shortstop to "provide protection" for J.P. Crawford. Gearrin, 32, is a Tennessee native who went 2-1 with a 3.77 ERA and one save in 62 appearances last season, when he split time between the Giants, Rangers and A's. Outfielder John Andreoli was designated for assignment to open a spot on the 40-man roster, which is now full.
