Steelers' Rooney: 'Hard to envision' Brown staying
Pittsburgh Steelers president Art Rooney II cast serious doubt about the future of wide receiver Antonio Brown with the team, in an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Thursday. "As we sit here today, it's hard to envision that," Rooney told the newspaper when asked if Brown would be with the Steelers when they open training camp in July. "But there's no sense on closing the door on anything today."
Panthers S Reid's lawyers reject report findings, request info
The legal team for Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid rejected the findings in a report released Wednesday by NFL/NFLPA that there was no evidence he was targeted for drug testing and are demanding a response on the matter, according to a report by CBSsports.com. In a letter to the NFL and NFLPA, Reid's legal team also requested more information as to how these findings were made, as well as a public correction of several dates the NFL used in its report that Reid's team says are incorrect. The lawyers have asked for access to all evidence, records, electronic messages and information sources used to determine the report's findings.
Svensson shoots flawless 61 as Spieth struggles in Hawaii
Adam Svensson shot a stunning nine-under-par 61 to take a one-stroke lead as Jordan Spieth struggled in the opening round of the Sony Open in Hawaii on Thursday. The 25-year-old Canadian drilled a putt for his seventh birdie on the 18th green to move a shot clear of American Andrew Putnam, who earlier in the day used a red-hot putter to card a 62 at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu.

NBA roundup: Bucks end Rockets' home win streak
Giannis Antetokounmpo's tip-in with 39.1 seconds remaining allowed the visiting Milwaukee Bucks to fend off a furious Houston Rockets rally and squeeze out a 116-109 victory on Wednesday. The Bucks, winners of 11 of 13, coughed up most of their 15-point, fourth-quarter lead before Antetokounmpo parlayed his 20th rebound into a six-point lead. Antetokounmpo finished with team highs in points (27) and rebounds (21), including four rebounds on the offensive end.
Reports: Williams among Jets DC candidates
The New York Jets are aiming high to fill their defensive coordinator position under reported new coach Adam Gase, considering a trio of former head coaches for the role, including Gregg Williams, multiple outlets reported Thursday. Williams was just let go by the Cleveland Browns earlier this week when the club named Freddie Kitchens its new head coach. Williams went 5-3 as the interim coach in Cleveland after Hue Jackson was fired at midseason. Williams was also head coach in Buffalo from 2001-03.
MLB notebook: White Sox sign OF Jay, still seek Machado
The Chicago White Sox have agreed to a one-year, $4 million deal with veteran free agent outfielder Jon Jay, the club announced Thursday. Jay, 33, is the second player signed by the White Sox who is also a friend and workout partner of superstar free agent Manny Machado, who Chicago is hoping to land. The White Sox also signed first baseman Yonder Alonso, Machado's brother-in-law.
NBA notebook: James not ready yet, but closer
The Los Angeles Lakers said LeBron James' groin injury is healing, and the star forward has been cleared to increase his on-court activities. The team said James will be re-evaluated on Wednesday, meaning he is expected to miss the next three games: Friday at Utah, and home games Sunday against Cleveland and Tuesday against Chicago.
Las Vegas police seek DNA from soccer star Ronaldo in sexual assault inquiry
Police in Nevada have formally asked Italian authorities to obtain a DNA sample from Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo in the investigation of accusations that he raped a woman a decade ago in Las Vegas, police said on Thursday. Ronaldo, 33, widely regarded as one of the greatest soccer players of all time, has maintained he is innocent of rape and said through his Las Vegas lawyer on Thursday that the sexual encounter in question was consensual.
Pained Murray says Australian Open could be his swansong
Andy Murray may retire after the Australian Open, with the severe pain from his troublesome right hip having become almost unbearable for him to play on, the former world number one said on Friday. Overcome with emotion, the three-times Grand Slam champion wept at a media conference as he revealed that he had initially planned to quit after playing this year's Wimbledon tournament but now felt Melbourne Park might end up his swansong.
