Teenage cricket sensation AM Ghazanfar has been sidelined by a back injury, ruling him out of both the ICC Champions Trophy and the IPL. The Afghan off-spinner sustained a fracture during a tour of Zimbabwe, putting him on the recovery list for at least four months.
In his absence, left-arm spinner Nangeyalia Kharote steps into the spotlight. Originally a reserve, Kharote will join the main squad for the Champions Trophy set to be held in Pakistan and the UAE from February 19. Kharote has already made an impact with seven ODIs and six T20 games under his belt since last year.
Ghazanfar was set to make his IPL debut with the Mumbai Indians, but his injury delays this milestone. Meanwhile, off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman remains out of ODI contention due to health issues, though he's active in other tournaments. Afghanistan's Champions Trophy journey kicks off against South Africa on February 21 in Karachi.
