Olympic silver medallist Koki Ikeda has been slapped with a four-year ban by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for doping violations involving blood manipulation. The AIU stated the suspension was imposed following abnormalities found in Ikeda's blood samples.

The ban means Ikeda will miss the upcoming Japan Race Walking Championships on February 16. Furthermore, all his competitive results from June 20, 2023, to November 1, 2024, have been nullified. This comes after Ikeda’s provisional suspension in November, which triggered an appeal process after he denied the charges.

Ikeda, who is 26 years old, maintains his innocence and plans to appeal the ban with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The AIU's decision underscores their stringent stance on blood manipulation in athletics. The dates under investigation include blood samples collected on June 20, and during the period from August 16 to September 13, 2023.
