In a surprising turn of events at the Qatar Open, Jiri Lehecka, ranked 25th, ousted top seed Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals with scores of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 on Thursday.

Despite leading 4-2 in the third set, Alcaraz was unable to close out the match, allowing the resilient Lehecka to claim victory and advance to the semifinals. Alcaraz, who won the Rotterdam Open earlier this month, expressed uncertainty about what could have been done differently after the match.

Lehecka's victory sets up a clash with eighth-seeded Jack Draper. Meanwhile, Andrey Rublev and Félix Auger-Aliassime also advanced after defeating their respective opponents in hard-fought matches. Daniil Medvedev, affected by food poisoning, was forced to retire during his match against Auger-Aliassime.
