India has expressed interest in hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with plans to reinstate the axed disciplines from the 2026 edition. This move aims to ensure that India's medal tally remains unaffected when the event takes place in Glasgow.
The deadline to submit an 'Expression of Interest' for hosting the 2030 CWG is March 31, as confirmed by a source in the sports ministry. Talks with the Commonwealth Games Federation are reportedly underway.
India's proposal to include events dropped from the 2026 CWG reflects its ambition to retain a strong medal advantage. Notably, sports such as hockey, badminton, wrestling, cricket, and shooting were cut in an effort by Glasgow to streamline costs, causing concern over India's medal prospects.
