Soccer-South Korea's Ki to miss remainder of Asian Cup
However, Yonhap News reported on Monday that the Newcastle United midfielder felt a twinge during training and it was decided to drop him from the squad. The move is likely to bring an end to Ki's international career as he had indicated his plans to retire after last year's World Cup but agreed to delay that decision until after the Asian Cup.
Ki, who will turn 30 on Thursday, posted the message: "Thank God it's finally over" on his Instagram page late on Sunday. South Korea are looking to win their first Asian Cup since 1960.
