Ed Smith, renowned former England cricket selector and player, has been appointed as the next president of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), set to begin his role on October 1. The announcement was made by the Club's current president, Lord King of Lothbury, at the Annual General Meeting held at Lord's.

Expressing his excitement, Smith stated, "It is a huge honor to succeed Lord King as president of MCC. Lord's has been a special part of my life - as a cricket fan, player, and selector." Lord King praised the decision, noting Smith's extensive cricket career and intellectual background as key factors in his nomination.

Smith's tenure as president comes after a distinguished career in cricket, where he played for Kent, Middlesex, and England, accumulating nearly 13,000 first-class runs. He also launched a successful media career post-retirement, and was England's chief selector during their ICC Men's Cricket World Cup victory. Smith co-founded the Institute of Sports Humanities, reflecting his commitment to nurturing future sports leaders. During his presidency, Lord's will host significant women's cricket events, including the ICC Women's T20 World Cup final.
