India's Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen and Tharun Mannepalli have progressed to the semifinals of the Macau Open, adding another feather to their caps on Friday. However, the celebrated men's doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty faced a setback, exiting the tournament.
Tharun Mannepalli continued his remarkable journey in the BWF Super 300 event, defeating China's junior world champion Hu Zhe'an in a gripping quarterfinal match held at the Macao East Asian Games Dome. In a match that lasted three games, Mannepalli secured the victory with scores of 21-12, 13-21, 21-18.
Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen, ranked world number 17 and a Paris 2024 Olympics semifinalist, overcame China's Xuan Chen Zhu, prevailing 21-14, 18-21, 21-14. Sen's next challenge will be Indonesia's Alwi Farhan in the semis, in what has been his most successful BWF World Tour run in 2025 so far. Rankireddy and Shetty were edged out by Malaysia's Choong Hon Jian and Muhammad Haikal, marking their first loss against the duo.
