West Ham United has announced the signing of former Newcastle United and Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson on a one-year contract as a free agent. At 33, Wilson has demonstrated his prowess with 111 direct goal involvements in 239 Premier League appearances, including 49 for Newcastle. Despite his impressive record, he couldn't negotiate a new contract with the club.
Wilson, who has also played nine times for England with two goals to his name, expressed his enthusiasm for joining West Ham. 'I'm excited to be joining a massive football club like West Ham,' he said, highlighting the club's shared commitment to hard work and success.
After joining Newcastle in September 2022, Wilson achieved his best Premier League goal tally of 18 during the 2022-23 season, which included an appearance in the World Cup in Qatar. Despite limited playtime last season due to injuries, West Ham coach Graham Potter praised Wilson's experience, work ethic, and character as valuable attributes for the team.
