Italian top-tier football players will experience a significant pay reduction if their teams are relegated to Serie B. A new agreement, announced on Tuesday, between the Italian Footballers' Association and Serie A mandates a 25% salary cut aimed at easing the financial burden on clubs dropping out of Serie A.
This five-year agreement, impacting all contracts signed after September 2, 2025, allows for automatic pay reductions unless specified otherwise within a player's contract. Players under existing deals will adhere to previously agreed conditions.
If a relegated team is promoted back to Serie A, the original salary figures for affected players will be reinstated. Furthermore, the collective bargaining agreement introduces a new minimum salary structure based on player age that remains unaffected by relegation.
