In a groundbreaking achievement, the Indian women's cricket team seized their first ICC Women's World Cup, overcoming South Africa by 52 runs. Former cricketer Syed Kirmani lauded the efforts, hailing standout performers Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues as the "darlings" of the squad.
The team's triumph ended years of anticipation, following near-misses in the 2005 and 2017 finals. A powerful performance from Shafali Sharma and Deepti Sharma was pivotal in the team’s clinical victory. "Losing three games consecutively and staging such a comeback showcases the indomitable will of the squad," Kirmani remarked to ANI.
Adding to the accolades, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav praised the squad, announcing a ₹1 crore reward for state representative Kranti Goud. With consistent strategic plays and strong line-ups, India reached 298/7 in their innings, eventually bowling South Africa out for 246 to secure their maiden title win.
