Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, has called for an independent judicial inquiry into the chaos and alleged mismanagement at an event featuring football icon Lionel Messi at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Adhikari penned a letter to Governor C V Ananda Bose, expressing his concerns over what he described as 'administrative incompetence' and 'public humiliation of citizens.'

The BJP leader criticized the state administration for turning the stadium into a 'private durbar' for VIPs, causing significant inconvenience to ticket-holding spectators. The disruption led to vandalism as fans failed to view Messi due to obstructed sightlines and excessive VIP presence. Police have arrested the event's main organiser, Satadru Datta, while the state government announced a high-level inquiry committee.

Adhikari questioned the committee's independence, arguing it is compromised by state affiliations and urged for a panel led by an impartial figure such as a sitting judge of the Calcutta High Court. He stressed the need for accountability, proposing resignations and refunds for affected spectators. Adhikari's call marks a significant highlight in ongoing debates over public accountability and state roles in managing large events.
