Trouble erupted at Salt Lake stadium during Lionel Messi's event, leading to West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose's intervention on Sunday. Accompanied by officials, Bose inspected the venue firsthand after being denied entry during the chaos, which marred the highly anticipated spectacle.
The governor termed the incident a 'dark day for Kolkata's sports enthusiasts' and has mandated the state government to hold the responsible organizers accountable. The chaos ensued when Messi's brief appearance left fans, who had traveled far and paid generously for tickets, unable to see their idol.
In a move toward resolution, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee initiated a high-level inquiry committee. The panel, led by retired Justice Ashim Kumar Ray, includes top state secretaries and is charged with investigating the lapses that led to the disorder.
