A team representing Rajasthan at the National School Games in Manipur has reportedly been the victim of extortion by an armed group. The alleged incident occurred while the team was traveling from Nagaland's Dimapur to Imphal. Though the team logged no official complaint, allegations emerged on social media, prompting a call for investigation by authorities.
The father of one of the players released a video clip, stating that the team was detained at gunpoint for two hours and coerced for money. Despite the proximity of a control room to their accommodations at Khuman Lampak Stadium, the issue was not raised during their stay, officials noted.
Officials confirmed that an inquiry has been initiated to verify these claims, and the local police have been tasked with investigating the allegations. The National School Games were inaugurated by Manipur's governor and saw the Rajasthan girls' team win first place, while the boys' team took second.
