Raiders name five coaches to Gruden's staff

Five assistant coaches were announced Thursday as additions to the staff of Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, including former NFL defensive lineman Brentson Buckner. He was named defensive line coach, and the Raiders also introduced Taver Johnson as an assistant defensive backs coach, John Morton as a senior offensive assistant, A.J. Neibel as head strength and conditioning coach, and Kirby Wilson as running backs coach.

Buckner, a second-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1994, spent last season in the same role for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also has coached with the Arizona Cardinals and was a coaching intern with the Steelers. Johnson returns to the NFL as coach after spending the past 13 years on the college sidelines, including last season as Ohio State's cornerbacks/special teams coordinator. He was a coach with the Cleveland Browns in 2004.

Morton, who was the New York Jets' offensive coordinator in 2017, also had two separate stints with the New Orleans Saints and coached with the San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers. He spent eight seasons with the Raiders from 1997-2004. Neibel returns to the Raiders after working with the team from 2003-08. He has also worked with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons, as well as MLB's San Francisco Giants.

Wilson, whose coaching career began in 1985 at Pasadena (Calif.) Community College, will enter his 26th year as a running backs coach. He also was on the staffs of the Cardinals, Browns, Steelers, Minnesota Vikings, Washington Redskins, New England Patriots and Buccaneers (2002-03) with Gruden. --Field Level Media
