The Rugby Premier League completed its second season player auction and draft in Hyderabad, seeing strong team formations for both men's and women's divisions. With significant signings and team strategies in play, the league aims to expand its influence as a key rugby platform in India.
The Rugby Premier League is charging ahead, following a triumphant inaugural season in 2025, by finalizing the player auction and draft for its second season in Hyderabad. On Thursday, franchises have secured robust squads that are poised for the upcoming season, scheduled to kick off in June at Gachibowli Stadium.
In an unprecedented move for Indian rugby, the auction also included women's franchises, with teams such as the Chennai Bulls, Mumbai Dreamers, Kolkata Banga Tigers, and Delhi Redz forming their maiden squads. Both men and women will compete from June 16 to 28, marking a significant development for the sport.
The auction witnessed strategic acquisitions by six men's and four women's teams, creating balances between experienced internationals and Indian newcomers. Standout figures include Sumit Kumar Roy, the highest-paid male Indian player, and Shikha Yadav leading female signings. As squads prepare for the season, the Premier League is set to become a staple in Indian rugby.
