Wrexham's Premier League Dream Punctured by Playoff Miss
Wrexham's aspiration to reach the Premier League was thwarted this season after a 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough left them out of playoff contention. Hull claimed the final playoff spot with a controversial win over Norwich. Fellow club Ipswich meanwhile secured an automatic promotion alongside champion Coventry.
Wrexham's pursuit of Premier League glory reached a premature conclusion for this season, after the Welsh club settled for a 2-2 draw against Middlesbrough. The match result dashed their chances of making it to the playoffs in the second-tier Championship.
The draw allowed Hull to leapfrog Wrexham into sixth place, clinching the final playoff berth as they secured a 2-1 victory over Norwich. The deciding goal, netted by Oli McBurnie, sparked controversy when it appeared to be scored from an offside position, highlighting the absence of video reviews in the English Football League.
Elsewhere in the league, Ipswich secured promotion to the Premier League alongside champion Coventry, by overpowering Queens Park Rangers with a 3-0 win. The upcoming playoffs will feature Hull, Millwall, Southampton, and Middlesbrough battling it out for the remaining Premier League spots.
