Dani Carvajal's World Cup Hopes in Jeopardy
Real Madrid and Spain defender Dani Carvajal has suffered a foot injury, putting his World Cup participation in doubt. With Carvajal's contract ending and new signings shifting starting positions, his future at Madrid is uncertain. Spain's tournament opener is against Cape Verde on June 15.
Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has injured his foot just six weeks before the World Cup, casting doubt on his participation for Spain. The club announced Carvajal had a bone fissure in his right foot but failed to provide a recovery timeline.
Injuries have plagued Carvajal over the last two seasons, causing him to lose his starting position to Pedro Porro and Marcos Llorente. Even if he recovers in time, Coach Luis de la Fuente has other options for Spain's opener against Cape Verde on June 15 in Atlanta.
With Carvajal's contract expiring in June and only five games left this season, questions arise about whether he has played his last game for Madrid, a club he has aided in winning six Champions League titles. The arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold has already pushed him out of the starting lineup.
