Jhulan Goswami applauded the Bengal T20 League's role in boosting women's cricket in Bengal, following the completion of its first player auction for Season 3. By investing significantly in grassroots development, the league provides a vital platform for the next generation of female cricketers, fostering professional growth and exposure.
Former Indian pacer and Bengal cricket icon, Jhulan Goswami, praised the Bengal T20 League's pivotal role in advancing women's cricket in the state. Serving as the mentor for women's cricket at the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), Goswami commended the league as a substantial platform for nurturing the next generation of cricketers, according to an official release.
Earlier this week, the Bengal T20 League conducted its inaugural player auction for Season 3, allowing franchises to form their squads from a pool of over 1,000 players, which included significant investments in both men's and women's cricket. Shahbaz Ahmed and Mita Paul emerged as the top picks in men's and women's categories, respectively, showcasing the league's growing significance.
Goswami acknowledged the CAB's efforts in grassroots cricket development, noting the dramatic rise from 60-70 female players during her playing days to over 500 enlisted in the league now. She emphasized the league's role in providing young cricketers with exposure to professional environments, preparing them for the pressures of elite-level cricket, and enhancing their decision-making and game awareness skills.
