Hockey India Bolsters Coaching Landscape with New Nationwide Program

Hockey India unveils its Level '1' Coaching Course schedule, aiming to enhance domestic coaching frameworks. The initiative, extending to Coimbatore and Haridwar in May and June 2026, underscores a commitment to grassroots development and gender equality, with over 600 coaches certified since 2019.

Hockey India is set to enhance its domestic coaching framework by announcing the schedule for its Level '1' Coaching Course. The course is set to extend its reach to Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and Haridwar, Uttarakhand, with sessions slated for May and June 2026.

Since 2019, the Hockey India Coaching Education Pathway has become a crucial element in developing a strong pipeline of technical expertise in Indian hockey. Highlighting its impact, over 600 coaches have been certified, benefiting from a structured pathway that takes them from grassroots coaching to high-performance levels.

Pathway graduate and FIH Academy Level 3 Certified Coach Rani emphasized the program's importance, saying, "The transition from player to coach is a distinct journey, and this pathway has been instrumental." She noted the program's focus on modern coaching methodologies and highlighted its role in growing young talent by applying advanced international concepts.

Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey praised the initiative, considering it the bedrock for a world-class sporting nation. Meanwhile, Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh emphasized the program's focus on gender equality and the contribution of transitioning international athletes into coaching roles.

The course comprises several levels, from the Hockey India Level 'Basic' to the FIH Academy High Performance, and includes a mix of web-based modules and face-to-face interactive sessions. This upcoming Level '1' course features practical assessments and a comprehensive application process for aspiring coaches.
