PR Sreejesh, ex-goalkeeper for India and erstwhile coach for the junior men's team, is voicing discontentment about his short-lived 17-month tenure. Despite securing five medals during this period, Sreejesh claims that Hockey India's inclination for foreign coaches led to his removal, an allegation the organization has dismissed.

According to Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey, Sreejesh's contract naturally concluded in December 2025. A new coaching position was subsequently advertised and fulfilled through a formal selection process. Sreejesh rejected an alternative offer to coach the development team aimed at preparing for the upcoming Olympic cycle.

In a public response, Hockey India reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing homegrown talent. Tirkey emphasized that over 600 local coaches have been certified, undermining Sreejesh's claims. The issue underscores the ongoing debate about foreign coaching preferences in Indian sports.
