MotoGP reigning champion Marc Marquez is gearing up for a comeback at the Italian Grand Prix, as confirmed by his team Ducati on Tuesday. This follows his absence from the French and Catalan Grands Prix due to injuries from a crash at Le Mans earlier this month.

The 33-year-old Spaniard underwent surgery for a metatarsal fracture and had a shoulder operation originally set for post-Catalan GP. Recovery has progressed well, with Ducati stating, "Following a positive medical check, Marc will travel to Mugello tomorrow" in preparation for a crucial trackside assessment on Thursday.

While Marquez prepares for Mugello, Ducati's Italian test rider Michele Pirro will temporarily take over for Marquez's brother Alex on the Gresini Racing team after Alex suffered significant injuries during the Catalan Grand Prix.
