In a significant stride for sustainable maritime innovation, Team Sea Sakthi from Kumaraguru College of Technology in Coimbatore has emerged as India's sole participant at the prestigious Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2026. Scheduled from July 8-11, this event, organized by the Yacht Club de Monaco, is a leading platform for pioneering clean marine propulsion technologies, witnessing representation from 56 teams across 22 countries.

Characterized by its competitive spirit, Team Sea Sakthi competes in the Energy Class as the first and only Indian contingent in the challenge. Formed in 2022, the team has developed an electric catamaran focusing on optimizing proprietary propulsion systems and integrating bio-based fibers for enhanced durability and sustainability. This year's strong Asian representation underscores a global pivot towards green maritime technologies.

The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, under the 'Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting' initiative, is endorsed by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, UBS, BMW, and SBM Offshore. Bernard d'Alessandri, Director and General Secretary of the Yacht Club de Monaco, emphasizes the event's role in granting teams the opportunity to test technologies in real-world scenarios. Team Sea Sakthi's participation highlights India's commitment to eco-friendly maritime solutions and showcases indigenous engineering prowess on an international stage.
