Canada Soccer announced on Tuesday that Jayden Nelson has joined the national team's World Cup roster, filling the spot left by injured midfielder Marcelo Flores. Nelson, a winger from Austin FC, replaces Tigres UANL’s Flores, who was ruled out with a torn ACL.

Flores, 22, sustained the injury during last month's CONCACAF Champions Cup final. The injury forced the team to look for a viable replacement, finding it in Nelson—who has already made his mark with three goals in 14 international appearances.

As World Cup co-hosts, Canada begins their tournament journey against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12 in Toronto, with subsequent Group B matches against Qatar and Switzerland on the horizon.
