Revving into the Future: FIA's Bold Engine Rule Overhaul
Formula One governing body proposes significant rule changes reducing the electric power ratio in engines by 2027-2028. The shift, aimed at enhancing race excitement and safety, will see increased combustion engine power. The FIA emphasizes collective innovation for sustainability, backed by positive fan feedback and emerging talent like Kimi Antonelli.
In a groundbreaking move, Formula One's governing body has unveiled a comprehensive plan to alter engine rules, boosting the combustion engine's power ratio by 2027 and 2028. According to a statement from the International Automobile Federation (FIA), the current electric and combustion engine power ratio is set to change from 53-47 to 60-40 within the next two years.
The amendment entails a 5% increase in fuel flow for 2027, followed by a 13% increase in 2028, pushing combustion engines to heights of 420kw and 450kw power. This initiative responds to recent driver concerns, advocating for more genuine racing experiences and reduced energy management risks on the circuit.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem stated that these changes are a testament to Formula One's adaptability in the face of technological advancement and sustainability. The fan base also seems enthusiastic, with recent surveys showing a marked uptick in approval for the races, especially the Monaco Grand Prix. Notably, Mercedes's rising star, Kimi Antonelli, is making headlines as the sport's youngest championship leader.
