Russell Dominates Barcelona Practice as Tensions Flare
George Russell clocked the fastest lap for Mercedes in the final practice session for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. Teammate Kimi Antonelli ranked seventh and received a reprimand. Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri, Charles Leclerc, and Lando Norris were top contenders as Antonelli faced challenges from traffic on the track.
George Russell showcased his prowess by posting the fastest lap for Mercedes in the final practice session leading up to the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. Though teammate Kimi Antonelli has dominated the season, the Italian only managed to end practice in seventh place after encountering driving difficulties.
Russell, trailing Antonelli by 68 points, will head into qualifying with optimism, having dominated two of the three practice sessions. McLaren's Oscar Piastri, last year's pole-to-victory hero, followed close behind while Ferrari's Charles Leclerc rounded out the top three.
Champion Lando Norris, fastest during Friday sessions, came in fourth for McLaren, with Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen trailing. Antonelli blamed traffic for his struggles, leading to his first disciplinary reprimand of the season.
